Research Associate, Foreign Policy and Defence
Sophie Mayo is a Research Associate with the Foreign Policy and Defence Program at the United States Studies Centre.
Sophie formerly worked as a consultant within strategic communications division of FTI Consulting, a US-based firm, and as a Research Assistant with the institute for active policy, Global Access Partners. She previously interned with the Foreign Policy and Defence Program at the United States Studies Centre and with Aboriginal Housing Northern Territory as part of the Aurora Program.
She holds a Bachelor of Global Studies (Communications) from the University of Technology Sydney, a Graduate Certificate in Commerce from the University of Sydney and a Masters of International Relations (American Foreign Policy) from the University of Sydney. Her capstone research project ‘Cold War 2: A Tech Race’ explored US – China strategic competition in critical and emerging technology, she received a high distinction for this work.
Sophie volunteered with the ASEAN-Australia Strategic Youth Partnership (AASYP), where she co-designed and delivered a series of workshops, aimed at enhancing student’s career progression and knowledge of security issues in the Indo-Pacific.
