Biography
Robert Monterosso is a Research Fellow in the United States Studies Centre’s Economic Security Program. Robert has experience providing economic advice across government and industry on a raft of topical economic security and geopolitical issues. Most recently, he worked at a major consultancy in their economics practice.
Based in Canberra, Robert has advised senior government officials, business leaders, and industry groups on critical minerals, energy, clean technology, and trade. He played a major role in leading Australia’s first quantitative assessment of its critical mineral needs and vulnerabilities, which informed updates to Australia’s Critical Minerals List in 2023 and 2024.
His experience also spans a range of countries, including Germany/EU, the Republic of Korea, Mongolia, and the Pacific. A personal highlight of his was helping Solomon Islands and the Federated States of Micronesia to boost development and grow their export economies.
He is passionate about helping governments and businesses scan, navigate, and plan for geoeconomic risks. He holds a Bachelor of Economics (Advanced) and a Bachelor of Arts in International Development from the University of Adelaide.
