The Lowy Institute and the United States Studies Centre discussed the concept of the 'Pacific President’, a label Barack Obama has assigned to himself. A panel comprising Dr Michael Fullilove, Program Director of Global Issues at the Lowy Institute, Mary Kissel, Editorial Page Editor of The Wall Street Journal Asia and Dr Geoffrey Garrett, Chief Executive Officer of the United States Studies Centre considered the challenges the Obama administration faces in Asia and the Pacific in a discussion chaired by the Executive Director of the Lowy Institute, Dr Michael Wesley.

  • Dr Michael Fullilove is the Director of the Global Issues Program at the Lowy Institute for International Policy and a Nonresident Senior Fellow in Foreign Policy at the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC
  • Mary E. Kissel is editor of The Wall Street Journal Asia's editorial page, where she directs opinion coverage and contributes regularly to the global Journal’s signed and unsigned commentary on Asia-Pacific.
  • Dr Geoffrey Garrett is founding CEO of the United States Studies Centre and Professor of Political Science at the University of Sydney. He was previously President of the Pacific Council on International Policy in Los Angeles and before that Dean of the UCLA International Institute.
