National Counterterrorism Center director Nicholas J. Rasmussen discussed the current terrorist threat environment, reviewed recent history, and examined the evolving nature of terrorist threats. He described challenges facing the counterterrorism mission and the importance of global partnerships in addressing the changing landscape. He also offered ideas on framing this challenge in the longer term and implications of an evolving, modern terrorist threat.

    Nicholas "Nick" Rasmussen will speak at a USSC event in April 2017. He was sworn in as the Director of the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) in late 2014, upon his confirmation by the United States Senate. He previously served as NCTC’s Deputy Director and on the National Security Council staff as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Counterterrorism, where he was responsible for providing staff support to the President, the National Security Advisor and Homeland Security Advisor on counterterrorism policy and strategy.

    Paul Maley will moderate a USSC event in April 2017. He is currently The Australian's National Security Editor and has been covering national security issues for a decade. In 2014 he won a Walkley Award for his coverage of Australian terrorist Khaled Sharrouf.
