The United States Studies Centre kicked off its CEO series with one of the most high-profile US business leaders currently working in Australia.

Mike Kane joined building and construction materials company Boral in 2010 as president of its US operations, before being appointed CEO and managing director in 2012. Since Kane took the helm, Boral’s profitability and balance sheet has significantly improved, the company has led a high profile battle against misuse of union power in Australia’s construction industry, and Boral has embraced a new corporate culture. Boral also recently undertook a $3.5 billion acquisition of US building materials giant Headwaters Inc.

The Australian Financial Review's Business Person of the Year in 2014, Kane has worked across Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, Asia and the United States.

Kane joined USSC CEO Simon Jackman for a conversation about doing business in Trump's America, sharing his insights on the prospects for the US and global economy under Trump, and what this means for business in Australia.
