Biography

Dr Christopher J. Watterson is a Research Fellow with the Foreign Policy and Defence Program at the United States Studies Centre, University of Sydney.

Chris was previously a Research Fellow at the Department of War Studies, King’s College London, where his research focused on North Korean nuclear and ballistic missile development, the implementation and evasion of economic sanctions in East Asia, and the regulation of strategic trade. He has published widely on these topics in multiple, internationally recognised outlets, including Armed Forces & Society, Marine Policy, Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, The National Interest, Council on Foreign Relations and The Diplomat.

Chris has secured and delivered upon more than A$1.7 million in research funding from various international sources and has presented his research to multiple national government agencies in Europe, the Indo-Pacific, and the Americas, and to specialist agencies in the United Nations.

Chris has a PhD from the University of Sydney, a Master of International Security from the University of Sydney, and a Bachelor of Science (Honours) from the University of Newcastle, Australia.
