The United States has launched a series of strikes on Iranian military sites near the Strait of Hormuz. They come as peace talks between the two countries continue in Qatar. While some analysts believe the negotiations are finding common ground, the process may be complicated by the fact the third major player in the conflict, Israel, is intensifying its strikes on southern Lebanon.
USSC Associate Professor David Smith spoke with ABC on this development, saying that "30 of the 33 missile sights along the Strait of Hormuz are still operative, so the United States feels that that might be a threat to its ability to maintain a blockade on the Strait of Hormuz."
