About the tracker
With the constant stream of tariff announcements, it can be challenging to understand which tariffs have actually entered into effect and when. This timeline focuses solely on implementation by highlighting tariffs that have been formally enacted from the start of the Trump administration through 7 August.
Although headlines often suggest sweeping and immediate changes, the reality is that many tariffs have been announced, but not all have been implemented. The recent enactment of the ‘reciprocal’ tariffs on 7 August is notable as it is the first time these near‑universal tariffs have entered into force despite being announced on 2 April.
Looking forward, the potential for tariff rate adjustments remains high as countries continue negotiating with the Trump administration in pursuit of more favourable trade terms.
