Biography
Dr Naoise McDonagh is a Non-Resident Fellow in the United States Studies Centre's Economic Security program and the MBA Director and Senior Lecturer in Geopolitics and International Business at the School of Business and Law, Edith Cowan University. He is the current managing editor of the academic journal Law & Geoeconomics.
Dr McDonagh holds a PhD from the University of Auckland, New Zealand and an MA and BA from the University of Galway, Ireland. He is a former President of the Australian Institute of International Affairs, South Australia.
Dr McDonagh's research addresses how geopolitical tensions are transforming the world economy, including the rise of economic security, and the causes and consequences of geoeconomic power balancing. Dr McDonagh regularly publishes his research in top-ranked academic journals and policy think tanks. With over 50 publications in scholarly and policy outlets, Dr McDonagh is a leading global analyst addressing the complex relationship between international relations, geopolitics and international trade. He is a regular keynote speaker at national and global conferences and frequently appears in media coverage on trade and geopolitics.
He is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and regularly provides briefings on building geopolitical resilience to Australian board directors.
Prior to entering academia, Naoise served two years in the Irish Defence Forces (2002-2004) and worked in the private sector for half a decade (2004-2009).
