The lineup for the workshop on November 18 comprised short talks of around 10 minutes or less on how people’s research on conservatism informs their understanding of the Second Trump Administration. This was followed by five minutes of questions and an open-ended discussion for 30 minutes.
The workshop was the launch event for a global network on “American Conservatism and the Far-Right.”

- Laura K. Field, Brookings Institution, author of the forthcoming, Furious Minds: The Making of the MAGA New Right. This podcast featuring Laura provides an excellent overview of the book
- Melinda Cooper, Australian National University, author of Family Values: Between Neoliberalism and the New Social Conservatism (Zone Books, 2017) and Counterrevolution (Zone Books, 2025). Melinda explains her latest book in a detailed and fascinating manner in this recent podcast on Jacobin radio: part one and part two
- Whitney McIntosh, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, author of the excellent “Libertarianism” in Review of American History.
- George Hawley, University of Alabama, author of numerous vital books on American conservatism and the alt-right.
- David Austin Walsh, University of Virginia, author of Taking Back America and this excellent recent essay in the Boston Review on fissures in the MAGA coalition.
