USSC CEO, Dr Michael Green, tells the Australian Financial Review that Caroline Kennedy is the best credentialed US ambassador appointed to Australia in decades given her experience as a former envoy in Tokyo.
Dr Green said that experience was crucial given the increasing closeness of the trilateral relationship between Australia, the US and Japan that drives policy and the response to China in the Indo-Pacific.
"She has star power, but she also brings experience managing a major alliance,” said Dr Green, who got to know Ms Kennedy when she was in Tokyo. "She has carefully managed her public persona her entire life ... I wouldn’t look for the big splashy announcements. Her style is to listen and develop personal relationships and trust.”
