Across every Australian state and territory, we are holding public consultations to understand how people see the future of Australia's most important security partnership.

In 2026, the United States Studies Centre is hosting a series of national public conversations across Australia on the Australia-US Alliance, the defining security relationship for Australia in an era of unprecedented change in the international order and the domestic politics of the United States.

Led by USSC Senior Fellow Professor Benjamin Reilly, this nationwide project, the National Engagement on the Future of the Alliance (NEFA), marks the 75th anniversary of the Australia-US alliance. Through public conversations in every state and territory, the project seeks to better understand how everyday Australians view the Australia-US alliance, and to surface the ideas, concerns, and values shaping debate beyond the Canberra bubble.

These public events are an open forum for Australians across the country to offer their perspectives on the United States, the alliance, and Australia’s place in a dynamic region.

By delving deeper into the alliance’s social foundations, the project ultimately aims to help Australia chart its path forward in in a new era of great power politics and a fast-changing strategic environment.
