The wellbeing and future of the United States is inextricably connected to the peaceful development of the Asia-Pacific region. President Obama has made engagement in the region a strategic priority for the United States of America. The Asia-Pacific is home to half the world’s population, more than half the world’s GDP and nearly half of its trade and the United States has a key interest in continued peace and prosperity in the region. Rose Gottemoeller, Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security discussed the United States rebalance to Asia and its efforts to further strengthen the security in the region.
