With the new Biden administration in office and big tech cracking down on misinformation and conspiracy theories on their platforms, there's been a splinterig effect which has "helped to drive conspiracy theorists underground," Research Associate Elliott Brennan told AusBiz TV.

"They've been allowed to flourish in the open for so long that once the crackdown came, they already had the networks they needed to organise offline," Mr Brennan said.

"Allowing conspiracy content to run free on these platforms for so long makes the task of actually dismantling them or guiding them in a different direction much, much more difficult now they've established a real sense of community."
