‘Not surprising’: Labor faces internal division over AUKUS defence pact

In a SkyNews interview, USSC Foreign Policy & Defence Director Professor Peter Dean says it’s not surprising that there is an internal division within the Labor party over the AUKUS defence pact. Mr Dean’s comments come as around 40 local branches within the Labor party have opposed the AUKUS deal and have called for a review.

“I think with the AUKUS announcement coming along and the very strong opinions on the left in particular around nuclear power this is only what you would expect to see,” he told Sky News Australia. “So, I’d be quite surprised if this type of debate or these types of headlines weren’t floating around.”
