Major Joseph Kowo

Biography

Joseph Kowo is a Major and the Deputy Chief Medical Officer for Operations in the Armed Forces of Liberia. In this role, Maj. Kowo oversees the healthcare coverage of more than 2,000 AFL soldiers and their dependents. In addition, he currently serves as the Liberian Focal Person for the HIV/AIDS Regional Network of Military Forces in West and Central Africa, and the ECOWAS Malaria Elimination Focal Point. During the West African Ebola outbreak Maj. Kowo led efforts to prevent Ebola transmission amongst military personnel. In this role, Maj. Kowo collaborated with national and international outbreaks response organizations such as the Ministry of Health, The National Red Cross, CDC, WHO, USAID, China Military Response Team, German Red Cross, Africa Response Team and others but worked very closely with United States Army 101 Air Borne Division to reduce the impact of the disease on the armed forces.
