USSC Associate Professor Dr David Smith talks to ABC Drive about the uncertain future of TikTok in the United States. Dr Smith discusses current bipartisan legislation that would force ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, to sell the app to an American company within six months or be federally banned.
Dr Smith connects the “unusually bipartisan” legislation to lawmaker concerns of TikTok being a potential national security threat, on account of ByteDance’s connection with the Chinese Communist Party: “The reason why they’re doing something about TikTok is because confronting China is the one bipartisan area that's really left in Congress.”
