The United States Studies Centre provides a variety of innovative programs for students to gain practical international experience and a better understanding of the United States. Students have the opportunity to live, study, and work in Los Angeles and Washington, DC.
These global experiential learning programs are offered during the summer and winter holiday breaks and are integrated into the curriculum at the University of Sydney. This unique setup allows students to accelerate their degrees by earning credit points outside of the regular semester.
The UCLA Study Abroad Program provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students to study at the University of California, Los Angeles, ranked 16th in the 2015–16 Times Higher Education world university rankings. Students choose from hundreds of courses offered by UCLA from a variety of disciplines.
The United States Studies Centre runs the Los Angeles Placement Program in partnership with the University of California Los Angeles Extension (UCLA Extension). Designed for aspiring business leaders, the program not only equips students with the leadership skills to give them a competitive advantage in the workforce, but also with an in-depth understanding of the complexities of American business.
The Washington DC Placement Program was launched in 2011 by the United States Studies Centre in partnership with the University of California Washington Center (UCDC). The program provides students with the unrivalled opportunity to live in the seat of American power and witness firsthand the interaction of government and business.
The Uni-Capitol Washington Internship Programme (UCWIP) offers Australian students the opportunity to intern in a range of US congressional offices for eight weeks from January to March each year. Students enrolled in the Master of United States Studies at the University of Sydney are eligible to apply.
Students wishing to study in the United States in a fulltime degree are encouraged to enrol in an online preparatory course for university. This course is run by our partners at Sierra Nevada College and counts as 3 credit points (one unit) in any American Bachelor’s degree. As part of our partnership, students who enrol can use the code “USSC” to receive a discount on the course.
