The United States Studies Centre (USSC) is offering internship positions in its Trade and Investment Program led by Dr Stephen Kirchner. The Trade and Investment Program is the USSC’s most recent research addition, and has already made a global impact with its work, including Indispensable Economic Partners: The US-Australia Investment Relationship, which had Treasurer Scott Morrison and Australian ambassador to the United States Joe Hockey hosting its dual Australian and American launches.
This internship is available to undergraduate and postgraduate students with skills in one or more of the following areas:
This program will provide students with experience in the real-world application of economics and economic data and the fast-paced environment of a research centre. Students will be engaged in work designed to address real-world problems and will have the opportunity to develop skills in research, analysis, writing and problem solving.
Students will not only enjoy the benefits the Centre offers — which includes access to exclusive events with major political figures such as John Howard, John McCain and Joe Biden — but also the ability to sit-in on briefing sessions with senior members of the private and public sector, such as country directors of major financial institutions and senior US and Australian government officials.
These prestigious internships will be offered for the total duration of 13 weeks during semester. Students will need to complete a minimum of 78 hours of internship, usually 1-2 days throughout semester (schedule will be subject to consultation with Internship Supervisor).
Students from any year of any degree program may apply. However, in order of preference, students who fall into the following criteria will be considered more suitable:
Undergraduate students are required to complete (or have proof of commitment to complete) USSC3703 in order to be accepted entry into this internship.
Postgraduate students are required to complete (or have proof of commitment to complete) USSC6204, USSC6214 and/or USSC6205 in order to be accepted entry into this internship.
