Member of the Council of Advisors, United States Studies Centre
Stephen H. Roberts is a member of the US Studies Centre's Council of Advisors. Roberts is Chairman of Citi Australia, after 12 years as CEO and Chief Country Officer of Citi Australia. As Chairman, Roberts acts as an adviser and advocate for the franchise with clients, government and regulators.
In 1984, Roberts joined Salomon Brothers as an investment banking associate in New York. The following year, he was transferred to Sydney and promoted to Vice President in 1985. In 1989, he was appointed Director, with the responsibility of opening and heading the firm's Melbourne office. In 1992, he transferred to London as Director of European Capital Markets. He left Salomon Brothers in August 1995 to work as Regional Head of Capital Markets for Lehman Brothers in Hong Kong. In August 1996, he rejoined Salomon Brothers, which was ultimately bought by Citi.
Prior to his career with Salomon Brothers, Roberts held positions with the Australian Treasury and the Australian Foreign Service as Vice Consul in New York.
Born in Australia, Roberts holds a Bachelor of Economics degree from Australian National University.
