David Uren

    David Uren is a non-resident fellow at the United States Studies Centre at the University of Sydney. He is one of Australia’s leading economic writers. He was the Economics Editor for The Australian from 2013 to 2018 and led that newspaper’s Canberra economic coverage for 15 years.

    He is author of several books, including The Kingdom and the Quarry (Black Inc 2012), which explored Australia’s relationship with China during the resources boom, when the tensions caused by soaring prices became acute and Australia started reckoning with the impact of China as a rising strategic power in competition with the United States.

    His book Takeover (Black Inc 2015) examined Australia’s policy and attitudes towards foreign investment while Shitstorm (MUP 2010), written jointly with Lenore Taylor, revealed the inside story of the Rudd government’s management of the global financial crisis.

    His journalism career began in London covering commodity markets for several publications, including a regular column in the Times, following which he was resources writer for The Age for four years. He was the Editor of Business Review Weekly for nine years and has also edited major Asian magazines, including Asia Inc.
