On 11 August, the US Studies Centre co-hosted a roundtable discussion in Sydney with US Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel and Australian Minister for Defence Senator David Johnston as a prelude to this year's AUSMIN consultations between the two allies. Experts from a range of Australian institutions took part in a frank discussion with Secretary Hagel and Sentor Johnston on key strategic issues, including an exchange of views and assessments on Indo-Pacific security and alliance matters. The event, co-hosted with the Lowy Institute for International Policy, was attended also by senior policymakers, military leaders and several corporate leaders.
