US Studies Centre chief executive officer Professor Geoffrey Garrett has congratulated the Centre’s Adjunct Professor in Sustainability Robert Hill on his appointment as chancellor of the University of Adelaide.
Professor Garrett said Professor Hill was highly regarded and respected both in Australia and overseas.
“His previous position as Australia’s Ambassador to the United Nations, his expertise in sustainability and his knowledge of government make him an excellent choice for this position,” he said.
“Robert has been instrumental in the development of our new Dow Sustainability Program and is a great contributor.”
A University of Adelaide graduate in arts and law, Mr Hill is also chair of the Australian Carbon Trust Ltd as well as being an Adjunct Professor in Sustainability at the US Studies Centre, at the University of Sydney.
Before entering politics, Mr Hill was a barrister and solicitor, having gained a masters degree in law from the University of London.
His political career, from 1981 until 2006, included 10 years as the leader of the Government in the Senate from March 1996 until his resignation in January, 2006.
