The Australian's Cameron Stewart reports on new analysis from USSC research fellow Dougal Robinson which recommends the Turnbull government adopt a new approach to US relations under Donald Trump by bypassing tradition diplomatic channels to directly lobby the President and his inner circle.

The move would have Malcolm Turnbull visiting Washington for every year that Mr Trump is in the White House to personally engage the unpredictable President, leapfrogging a weakened US State Department that has been a key broker in Australia-US relations for decades.
