The Australian Government has confirmed a New York Times report that US President Donald Trump asked for its help in investigating the origins of the Mueller investigation into Mr Trump's Russian links. Australia's former foreign minister, Alexander Downer, helped spark the probe when, during his time as high commissioner to the UK, he reported to Canberra that a Trump staffer had told him the Russians had given the presidential candidate damaging information on his opponent, Hillary Clinton. USSC chief executive Simon Jackman is quoted in this report on ABC's The World Today.
