World leaders gathered yesterday to honour the life and legacy of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at a state funeral held in Tokyo. Former Australian Prime Ministers Turnbull, Abbott and Howard joined Anthony Albanese in paying tribute to the leader who once described Australia and Japan as “true soul mates”. US attendees included Vice President Kamala Harris as well as US Ambassador to Australia Caroline Kennedy, who was the US Ambassador to Japan during Abe's tenure.
