Neil Gorsuch's nomination to the US Supreme Court should make it to the Senate floor later this week. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is likely to respond to a Democratic filibuster of the vote by invoking the so-called "nuclear option". This rule change would fundamentally alter the Senate and allow debate on Supreme Court nominees to be ended with a simple majority vote (rather than the current 60 required to break a filibuster).
While Senator McConnell decides whether to go nuclear in the US Senate, North Korea's own nuclear ambitions continue to dominate foreign policy chatter this week. President Donald Trump said the United States was prepared to act unilaterally to deal with North Korea’s nuclear program if China didn’t. “Well, if China is not going to solve North Korea, we will. That is all I am telling you,” Trump told the Financial Times this week. Trump's comments come ahead of his meeting Thursday with Chinese President Xi Jinping at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
