This week's edition of The 45th newsletter.
Own goals and damaging leaks within the Trump administration dominate another week, with the Washington Post reporting that the president revealed highly classified information to the Russian foreign minister and ambassador in a White House meeting. It led to a series of public denials from Trump surrogates, reported corroboration by US officials in a number of other media outlets, and scored the Post a read count that broke the record set by its story on Trump's secretly recorded lewd comments about women.
And that was before Tuesday's explosive allegation that Trump asked the FBI to drop its probe into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn and urged former FBI Director James Comey instead to pursue reporters in leak cases. That's according to associates of Comey who have seen private notes he wrote and recounted the conversation for US media.
Is this the first salvo from an FBI director now outside the tent?
