Dr Stephen Kirchner, USSC director of trade and investment, was interviewed in an article for News.com.au where he discussed oil prices, the global economy and the coronavirus.
Dr Kirchner hasn't rule out the potential for another Arab Spring, saying the regions governments heavy dependence on oil revenue and pre-existing economic problems, combined with the additional economic pressures of the coronavirus outbreak "could spill over into political instability"
“Those underlying tensions have always been there but when you have shocks like this those tensions seem to manifest,” Dr Kirchner says.
