Leading US Capitol Hill tours, drafting constituent and political correspondence and supporting departmental meetings was all in a day's work for recent intern Carol Yu.
The University of Sydney student from Cherrybrook recently returned from an intensive nine-week University of California Washington Center internship with the United States Congress senator James M. Inhofe the Republican representative for Oklahoma.
"Interning in the Senate with SenatorJames Inhofe leading up to the 2012 presidential election year has been an exclusive and invaluable insight into the workings of the political landscape and the controversial issues surrounding current popular US debate," Ms Yu said. The second-year bachelor of commerce/bachelor of law student said the internship was a unique opportunity to immerse herself in American culture. "The internship [allowed] me to combine knowledge and theory I learned inside the classroom with practical world experience and ultimately give me a competitive edge over others in my course," Ms Yu said.
Ms Yu was one of 20 students selected to represent the University of Sydney. Students also study at the University of California Washington Center.
