Senior Fellow Dr Charles Edel joined the Australian Airforce's podcast "Conversation on the Runway," with host Mark Forbes and Dr Andrew Carr from ANU's College of Asia and the Pacific to discuss the shifting security environment in the region, great power competition, and the US-Australian alliance.
Dr Edel argues Australia's appropriate policy response to competition in the Indo-Pacific should be to pursue an "independent line", rather than acquiescing to any one great power.
He also raises the important question of the coronavirus pandemic and how it is exasserbating pre-existing geopolitical tensions, including how COVID-19 impacts the defence capabilities of the countires in the region.
